So, managed to get back out with the camera! Treated myself something rotten today, bought myself Sigma 10-20mm and 105mm Macro lenses, and a new Lowepro Slingshot 202AW bag. I then spent the rest of the day walking round Durham enjoying a day off from work!

The weather wasn’t ideal, a bit grey and overcast on the whole, though occasionally a bit of blue sky did show itself. Mainly left the 10-20mm on the camera and had a bit of play with it, and this is my favourite shot from the afternoon. Entrance to Durham Cathedral, taken at the wide end of the lens. Hopefully with some more practice and experimentation will get some nice inspired results!

Ok, so week 2 and I’ve already failed!

Unfortunately my days off were cancelled this week due to lack of cover being available, so had to work right through, which resulted in me failing to get out and about with the camera. So, to make amends, I’ll be trying twice as hard over the next week! Tomorrow I’m quite possibly treating myself to some nice shiny new equipment, in the form of a couple of new lenses and possibly a new tripod, so that’ll be further inspiration for me to get out there and use the camera. Also then planning on spending tomorrow afternoon/evening out and about in Durham!

So here we go, the first image for the blog! Took a spin over to Tynemouth today for a New Year’s Day trip to the seaside. The weather was somewhat bracing (ie freezing!) but refreshing. Had a coffee at the cafe on the beach, took a walk towards the castle and took a few snaps, but due to a combination of somewhat rubbish weather and rather chilly hands didn’t spend long trying to do anything properly!

Got a day off on Monday, so planning on spending a good chunk of the day exploring Durham with my camera, so entry number 2 should be up within the next few days.

Hi! I’m narked, and this blog is my attempt at getting myself into photography as a regular hobby again. My new year’s resolution is to spend some time, at least once per week, in the pursuit of some decent photographs, and this blog is here to enforce that resolution! Every week I WILL be updating the blog with at least 1 photo taken during that week, subject matter doesn’t matter, I’m just determined to get myself 1 decent image per week minimum over the course of the next 12 months. When the weather sucks, I shall have to be creative and find subjects that don’t involve getting soaked through, and I also need to try to avoid taking the same image week after week.

Recently relocated to Durham, in the North East of England, and there is loads to photograph round here. So this is also going to be a good way of helping me become familiar with my new home city. Would love to hear from anyone else in Durham and the North East with ideas of places to go/see!
